Tyres Just check.

Don’t take chances.

Blow out, shredded tyre.

The image above is a sight that you never want to witness, let alone have to react to whilst towing your caravan. This blow out happened at a relatively low speed, but was still on a motorway. Thankfully the slip for the next exit was there at the right time and they were able to carry on with awareness for the other vehicles and also themselves. The first reaction is to panic, and that may then result in the body producing more adrenalin and this can lead to you placing more force on the accelerator and thus going faster, ruining the wheel and potentially causing an accident.

The number one thing you should do is…

Check the tyres before you set off! obvious but not always something that is part of your check list. You are excited to be going away and the sooner you start the sooner you will be able to sip that glass of something cold whilst watching the world go by.

“TYRES ARE ONLY FLAT AT THE BOTTOM” someone once said!

The Caravan and Motorhome club, give us the following advice for when tyres need to be replaced.

Two or three factors can make them deteriorate in a different way, even with careful use.

  • All tyres age and deteriorate due to exposure to sunlight and atmosphere, even if not used.
  • Caravan tyres can suffer fatigue due to the repetitive small impacts they suffer in everyday use.
  • Being stored for long periods of the year without use can put undue strain on one particular part of the tyre.
